Hey all.
I know that ducks don't need water to swim in, just enough to dunk their bills, but they sure love paddling around. That said, does anyone ever keep a pond and use a stock tank heater doing the winter? Am I nuts?

I don't know if a stock tank heater would sufficiently be able heat a pond,How big is your pond?.I have two cricks and a pond on my property that for the most part stayed thawed all year round(besides the pond). But last year they both froze up during the polar vortex so my duck took turns swimming in a 5 gallon heated water bucket,Its fairly small but its better than nothing.

I'm sure some more people will chime in with there setup. No, you're not crazy,I totally disagree with the statement "Ducks only need enough water to dunk there head's".Water is essential to a ducks health and well being.
They need to be able to fully submerge there body or you might end up with External parasites infestations,Wet Feather and Wounds/Infections.

Whatever setup you decide make sure to post some pictures for us. Best of Luck!

Oh, I should have been more clear about the"pond". We actually have a kiddy pool out there now. I was going to swap it out for a smallish stock tank.

I think a stock tank would work great just so its small enough so dumping dirty water is a breeze and so your not hauling gallons and gallons of water to refill it.

Yikes, I didn't think about that. If course the water will be turned off all winter. Ok, there goes that plan. Thanks everyone!
