Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

How many chickens can you house in your coop?

Coop is 10x10 and I have about 40 birds in it (some are bantams). They have free access to the run and the other coop so most are only in their to sleep and lay eggs. I would say 40 is the upper end of comfort, for us anyway. I find that humidity is challenging at that number so I have to leave all three windows open, we also have a ridge vent installed. I am still considering adding a few more vents above the back window but I think I'm ok for now.

They do make this coop in larger sizes if you need bigger.

Thank you for posting all this wonderful info. I have been debating for weeks which coop/shed to buy/build and just couldn't make a decision. I LOVE yours!

I can't believe I missed that site in my searches. I hope you don't mind if I copy it! I have been wanting to put a poop board under my existing roosts for a while. My current set-up (repurposed greenhouses) is all temporary until we get the permanent coop built, but the roosts are portable, so I can put the poop board under it now. Thanks for the nudge!

Thanks guys

My chickens live right outside my back door so I need something that looks nice next to the house (and smell free

joan1708- You can get Sweet PDZ at your local farm store, here on Long Island (NY) it would be Agway. Maybe you have a Tractor Supply? It is a pretty common product so should be easy to find.

Tnchickennewbie- You never have to change out the PDZ. When it starts getting a little low I just add another bag. It really does last a LONG time. It has the same consistency as flour so it lightly coats the poops with "flour". They sell it in 40# bags. I originally brought a bag of it to try and freshen up my sand (that stunk), it then occurred to me that this stuff would be great to use as "kitty litter" on a poop board

Very good idea. I will check to see if any of our local farm stores carry sweet PDZ. I am also loving that coop. Thanks for sharing this info with us. I know what I will be doing this weekend.
