Poop boards filled w/sand must be super heavy!

Oh yeah...farms acquire odors...and flies.

I overkill a bit, too...we move the tractor all around our yard, and when it gets within about 20 - 30 feet of the back porch, I want as few odors as I can manage. With our horses, it can get whiffy in the heat of summer, no matter how much you muck...trying my best not to add to the stink. I DO use shavings in the nest boxes (that helps deodorize a little, too).

someone mentioned using wood pellets, but I know they expand with water, so not sure it's a good alternative

The Stall Dry I use is Diatomaceous Earth and Montmorillonite clay. It's great for keeping bugs away too.

FYI: Took this thread and one other that I've been watching for about a year now.... and tonight, FINALLY, I have poop boards and chicken jail for my girls. I got my pullets out of the dog crate and into "chicken jail" and they LOVE it. I also added in a small ladder section and they know just what to do with it... unlike my big girls who wander in circles wondering what the heck to do with a ladder in their space. Thanks for the great ideas and inspiration
