Yeah, it's not as exciting as one would think.

Doing morning chores this morning, I came back to the feed door and someone had left the gift for me to see. I have never seen poop quite like that before.

Thoughts? Concerns?

I have some chickens in sick bay. They aren't sick - they just can't handle the negative, single digit, or below freezing temps we have been having. (They can't handle them for a variety of reasons, mostly feather related.) One of them left this poop this morning. I am not sure who. Shedding intenstinial lining is normal, but I haven't quite seen this before.

Thoughts? Concerns?

Recently did a deworming (was told by former owner that one of the adoptees might have worms, so I watched, didn't see evidence, but treated all anyways.) Temps are warm now - in 20's-40's. (For us, that's been tropical weather compared to lately!) Feed hasn't changed. It's more of a wet mash than fermented because the cold temps (I don't have heat inside most of the time) and I have been adding wild bird seed or scrambled eggs to the wet mash. Been hauling water down too. Everyone is outside daily, except those in sick bay. Everyone has shelter from wind and cold temps.

I would be concerned at that and I'm not one to worry too much about abnormal poop! The fact that there are two similar abnormal "offerings" is also relevant. If that is shed intestinal lining there is far to much of it to be normal. The rest of the poop looks mucous like, so I would go ahead and start them on Corid or whatever amprolium product you have available.
How recently did you worm them and what did you use?

I used Wazine (as the dewormer).

* Can someone tell me the dosage of Safeguard? Like is it 1 ounce in a gallon of water?
* Can someone tell me the dosage of Corid?
* Can someone tell me how to mix Permethrin 10?

With the first poop sample - not sure which one in that flock left that sample but watching all closely. No one is showing signs of worms or mites/lice or cocci, but with all of the wacky weather, I am willing to treat for all.

With the second poop sample - different flock - not sure which one left that sample either. Watching that group closely too. I've had the same symptoms (second poop sample) with one group of adoptees. They stopped shedding so much lining after being here for a few weeks. They are not in this flock. And those adoptees are still here, alive and well! :)

So far, all chickens seem to be doing well.

When I looked for Ivermectin, I couldn't find it at TSC. :(

SafeGuard has to be given to each individual chicken. Dosage is 1/4 ml per pound given once and again in 10 days for round and common worms. For hard to get worms, such as gapeworm or capillary worms, it is given for 5 consecutive days.

You could get a sample checked by your vet to tell you what, if any worms or larvae are present. It would also tell you if there is coccidiosis. If you have just wormed, the abnormal stools could be from irritation.

For coccidiosis treatment, put 1 1/2 tsp of Corid powder or 2 tsp of the Corid liquid, per gallon of water, and treat for 5-7 days.
