Poopie Butt

Glad the babies are doing well, I'm pretty sure when I bought mine 4 weeks ago two of them came with poopie butt. I was a little nervous about buying from TSC so I bought six instead of the five because they had production egg layers Amber Link. The rest I bought from a breeder and will do the same until I need more production egg layers. So now all six are thriving and almost feathered out I'm going to have a lot of eggs when they start laying!

i bought some avc yesterday an i mixed that wit teramiasine an put 10 ml of acvan2 pinches of teramiasine ...an i rubbed sum vasoline around there butts an they seem to be doing alot better.

Sometimes mixing mediactions or with other products can cause adverse reactions. I don't know that the mix will cause problems but might want to stick with one "cure". Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject can shed more light.

I have had my 6 RSL chicks for a week now, my smallest one "Lilly" had a poopy butt - I cleaned it like everyone said to however some of her down did come out- my question is will she always have a bare bum or will her feathers grow in - I am afraid I may have damaged the feather growth - she is eating, drinking and playing fine -I have not seen her poop yet but seems happy. I am brand new at the chicken game and so crazy about them!

HenHouseMom, My chick with the poopy butt lost some down as well when cleaning her and I too was very gentle. No worries, her feathers are growing in and her tail feathers too. For a long time she had a bare bottom and that is how I could tell her apart. With the feathers growing in now she no longer has a bare bottom and she has never had a poopy but since. The only thing I ever did was give them a good diet and mix it up. I didn't do the vinegar in the water or anything else and all my chicks are eatting well and growing too fast to keep up with. All is good, chickens are a hardy lot.

ACV is a must. And a few spoons of active cultured butter milk (or yogurt) mixed with the started feed ever two days of a week will prevent poppy butt before it starts. In fact I have never had even one case in any chicks I hatched myself.

We actually had one case in the 8 we are growing out now. They were about 24 hours old when we picked them up. I clean her butts with warm water and then dab a little bit of vitamin E oil, which is also what I use to the combs and feet when they look dry. A tiny bottle of Vit E oil will keep and lasts for years.

Thank you so much for your info - ! I finally saw her poop this morning and her bum looked so much better - Yea! oh the little things that makes a mamma proud - lol

I hear you! I felt the same exact way with my little chick-a-dee. Congratulations!
I do the yogurt with the starter feed as well and have been since I got the chicks. At first they didn't take to it but now they love it.

Yes, it seems everytime I get new chicks at least 1 gets poopie or crustie butt. One I have now anus looks swollen too. I am doing the yogurt plain and warm water compresses. Often the one in distress churps continuously also. Belly ache. I was told that in the wild they eat some of mommy's poop and this clears it up. For the probiotics. I read something about olive oil once? Don't remember which end it was for though. Hope all chickies are ok. They have to poop or they get very churpie.

I don't know about olive oil but it someone experienced suggested it to you then it would probably work. But yes they eat mom's poop and that is what does it. You can buy the probiotics but the yogurt should have it in there. Best of luck.

I'm amazed by their growth in three months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
