I am all for sanitizing. I am all for NOT wasting food. When these little stinkers poop in their food, can you just spoon out the poops and the food immediately around them, or should you dump the whole thing? I have the long skinny metal feeders with the sliding top cover, and can scrub the tops, but am not sure how far their little poops can contaminate the food.

Well I'm sure you'll have someone tell you otherwise, but I look at it like the 5 second rule on candy...lol...if my son can live with a germ or three, then so can your chickens

IMO, scoop away the offending sample and leave the rest. That could get expensive.

I do the same.

I have come to favor the reel top feeders such as what Brower makes:

It doesn't completely eliminate manure in feed, but it sure cuts way down on it and less washing as well.

.....Alan.

When you watch them poop on the ground and then scratch in it and eat around it the dried pieces in their feed tray dosn't seem so bad. I just pick it out and go on.
