Every spring for about 3 or 4 years now I get new chicks to add to my flock. I’ve never had this problem with the new baby chicks from the farm store having poopy butts. Is this a normal thing or is there something causing it.

It’s probably the heat in your brooder. Do they have a place to escape the heat?
I just got them from tractor supply and they haven’t been in my brooder yet since I was cleaning it out since the ducklings and goslings like to make such a mess out of the water. But yes my brooder is big enough for them to get away from the heat. And tractor supply uses those big watering tanks.

Tractor supply doesn’t house them correctly. None of the farm stores do actually. I can’t understand why they place the heat lamp directly over the center of the brooder when it should be to one side. It could also be the stress from the move.

One was caked on it so it’s been like that for a while and I haven’t had a chance to look at the others yet.

With that one just get a warm wet cloth and gently wipe. If that doesn’t work use olive oil and apply to the area and let sit for a few minutes so it softens. Poopy butt is really annoying haha!

Thank you for your help!
