hi everyone my first time hatching..

i have a little runty chick .. it is the smallest of the bunch .. everything was fine when he hatched he was eating, drinking, and running around with the others then a couple of days later he would not stand fully and shivery. i have been feeding and watering him seperaetly as the other chicks are stamping and picking on him .
its very alert little chooky ..

im wondering if he has injured his leg .. it seems to be leaning onto one side more with his bum just off the floor.. any ideas please ...

I'm not sure what breed he is. If he is a smaller breed, like a bantam, than the small size would be normal. Bantams can be raised with standard breed chickens if there aren't too many, or else they may be trampled.
Chicks can get sick, especially in the first few days. Signs include standing while sleeping, bobbing while sleeping (they rock back and forth), wings held down, and no interest in food or water. Chicks tend to shiver when held, even when healthy, but shivering can also be a sign of being cold. Make sure to keep the chick warm and feeling safe.

It could be a birth defect, some chicks just have them and there is nothing to be done. It could have hatched too early or too late or had some other problem.

It could also be a parasites, like coccidia, or a disease. There are cures for these if you treat them fast enough.

It could also be spraddle leg. Spraddle leg is when a chick can't get a good grip under its legs and they slip out of joint because of this. This leaves one or both legs sticking out from underneath them. This can be fixed by hobbling their legs. You can read more about this elsewhere. Make sure they have a surface they can grip.

It could be a physical injury, such as trauma to the leg from other chicks piling up on him. If he was shipped he could have been injured there. It could even be head trauma. This can heal as well, with proper care.

I hope this helps.
Make sure his back-end stays clean, make sure he is getting electrolytes and is staying warm and getting rest.

I hope it gets better!

If he's alert and seems healthy other than his leg I would assume injury from the others picking on him. He should be fine in a couple days as long as its not too serious. Just keep him separate and keep an eye on him. It's possible that they picked on because he was small.

thankyou hes a copper black maran .. but silver blue unlike the others.... i had the eggs off a friend so wernt shipped.. he has been shuffleing alittle more today so i hoping he will get better .. like i said he was fin running around 4 days ago for a couple of days then i herd him being loud as i went to them he was flopped and wouldnt walk ...
just hope he dont get to lazy having his every peep peep catered for ..
