Poorly new girl

Hi not sure just following vets instructions. I just want to find out what it is so I can treat or not. Dont want her to suffer. Thanks.

Did you use Corid to treat for coccidiosis earlier? Can you post any pictures of her or her abnormal poop? A video of her walking posted to YouTube with a link posted here would be helpful to see if it looked more like Mareks disease or an injury. Reproductive disorders can happen occasionally to young chickens, although they are more common in hens over 2 years. How is her crop functioning? Does it gradually fill up during the daytime, and then empty overnight by the next morning? Fill of her breast for weight loss, and feel of her lower belly for enlargement or fullness compared to others. Look for any swelling in her leg and feet, and note if there are any scabs on her foot pads.

Hi yes I used corrid, but the poop sample was clear of it. I will check all the things you have mentioned, but its hard at the moment as I work full time & they are in bed when I get home. I see them for 10 mins in the morning & the weekend. We are going into the winter here in the UK, wished I lived in the sun. Love being in the garden with them in the Summer. I will try & get pics soon, but will check out the illnesses mentioned by everyone. I have noticed her wing drops sometimes when she sits down. Thanks.

I would keep following up with the vet if noticing new or different symptoms.

Tylan usually is broad spectrum abx to treat respiratory illnesses including mycoplasma G so that may illuminate where your vet’s thoughts were.

I'm afraid the most likely cause of your flock's problems is Marek's Disease. The dropped wing as well as lameness and possible problems with coccidiosis all point in that direction and she is at a prime age for it. Together with having lost 2 girls with similar symptoms a few months ago, that all ties in to Marek's disease. I would make this one as comfortable as possible and provide a good quality vitamin supplement. In the UK we have a product called Nutri Drops made by Nettex, which come in a little bottle with a dropper for about £10. You should be able to get it from the feed store where you get your chicken feed or online. There is no treatment for Marek's but the vitamins help to support the bird's immune system to fight it. If she is still keen to eat then there is hope that she will survive this outbreak, but she will always have the disease and the rest of your flock will be carriers. They will suffer outbreaks of it sporadically when stressed which often happens as they approach point of lay or moult or after a predator attack or prolonged severe bad weather. I have had some birds take several months of supportive care and make a limited recovery and others recover as quickly as they developed symptoms and some sadly decline and die quite rapidly as you experienced with the other two birds.
I euthanize them once they lose interest in food as I have not had one recover beyond that point but I have had birds that were pretty much nest bound and unable to walk for weeks pull through. Sunshine and grass were two factors that seemed to help but like you, I am in the UK and know that sunshine is a very limited commodity at this time of year.
Good luck with her. I know how heart breaking Marek's can be.
