Porcelain Silkie Thread

Quote:
Porcelain coloring is Mille Fluer with the lav gene or Mottled Buff or Red Columbian with the Lav gene. You are missing two essential genes for it to be porcelain, Columbian and Mottled.

The person who coined the term Porcelain for this color was referring to the colors found on the Porcelain OEGB. Not the exact patterning, just the coloring found on the feathers. But that person also has been working with breeders on the ASBC website, trying to get a better description that is less confusing for the poultry world to accept. I believe the latest term being used is Blue Creme, to descibe this color in silkie feathering.

Yes...very true. With silkies due to their feathering it would be hard if not impossible to try and duplicate those genes and SEE them. There are a few breeders working on mottled silkies but as a whole I think it will be years if EVER that we get true Porcelain Silkies. On the ASBC everyone has been debating the name to call these birds other than porcelain since they are NOT true porcelains.

Some of the ideas were:
Pastel
Isabel
Self-Blue Appricot

Brody's Broodello :

Nice to see pics of Brody & the girls.

I thought you had sold them all. I Just hatched a bunch of their siblings here

I was thinking about it....but as soon as I got a bite, I couldn't go though with it! I just love them too much! Thanks so much for them! I have added a few since and even have Brody covering some lav showgirl hens for fun

I would love to see some pics of the siblings! Your "porcelains" are just stunning! I ALMOST bid on your eggs too...but my incubator was full. If you have any nice black boys PM me! I am still looking for one

Good name for the color. Wouldn't this be close to the lemon blue in Cochins?

Can anyone tell me if she would be a good start? Let me know if you need better pictures to tell and I can try to get some more of her.

Do you know the breeding behind her? Without knowing her background it would be hard to say. You could always test breed her to a lavender or porcelain and see what she throws.

Cute chick! I am interested to see what it looks like as it feathers in more! Was the egg marked a particular color? Or do you know what colors the parents were?

Mom was a partridge for sure and the dad at that time could have been a buff or a blue.

No, there was no designation as to color. These were actually Showgirl eggs, but as luck would have it, the one that hatched was a Silkie. Colors were lavender and lav splits, isabel/porcelain, splash, to best of my recollection. Since it's a Silkie, I've been reading some of the Silkie threads.

Hubby is almost finished with my new pens, but the girls are still together & laying so I am doing one more & last 24 hour auction for eggs from my BEST show birds, as well as my projects including the Salmon Cock (McSilkie)

I've just hatched out almost a dozen Porcelain chicks from these hens this week. So a good chance there will be some from these eggs!
