Porcelain Silkies

I will surely ask him. Either way they are beautiful. And I will still be buying them.

I'm not a show person. I would love to show. But I have no knowledge on the matter. I would be so lost. Maybe next year. If I can find a person to tell me it works.

Get off the confuser for a couple of hours and a whole new topic explodes with interest

My avatar is a porcelain from George; she has very little of the lavender colouring, is almost totally isabel. Yes, George bred lavender into buff. He has been working on it for several years. I believe he was originally interested in bringing the isabel portion of the porcelain into silkies, but has now decided he really likes the birds who show the multiple colouring. You'll have to ask him. If you want to talk about his birds, plan on a long conversation

No, it does not have the mille fleur pattern--at least not yet. I have some babies that are part of the way there, but probably won't be worth showing off for at least a couple more generations, maybe longer.

There is a big difference between a planned project and an accidental unexpected colouring. Not to say that the latter cannot be the starting point for a project, either as the actual seed or merely as the idea. But project birds are not PQ culls.

Oh, porcelains all have at least some of the isabel colouring. Mine is almost entirely isabel, the one in the photo is a good mix of the two.

John Fitzgerald may have some. Ryanne Hoffman has some. I know George has sold a few to others, but those are the folks I would talk to in addition to George.

I don't think recognising colours on silkie feathers is difficult, but recognising patterns, very much so.

Yay finally a response from Sonoran. Haha. Your the one I was looking for.

Your avatar is so beautiful, I always wondered what color it was.

So basicly his Porcelain is Isabel Porcelain? What is the difference between Isabel Porcelain and Porcelain?

I agree. I do not think in any way his Porcelains are PQ or Culls. lol I almost think they are the prettiest of all silkie colors.

I am so excited to get some of his birds. I am also getting a pair of splashes to go along with the Awesome pullet I have now.

Clockwise from the top: buff, white & (isabel) porcelain:

Two porcelains with slightly different colouring; I bred the paler one, the one with deeper colour is from George--she is also the one pictured above:

Isabel is lavender diluted buff. Porcelain, as defined in the standard, is lavender diluted mille fleur. The lavender dilutes the buff in a mille fleur to isabel, the black to lavender and white remains white. As silkie people are using the term, the mille fleur pattern is not involved. Some of the porcelain silkies show more lavender, as in the photo posted by Kinder, some show more isabel, as in the photos I posted. However all of them have some amount of each colour.

That porcelain for George is so nice. So are the others. You always have such wonderful birds. Hopefully one day I will have a nice stock going that is pretty nice. I already got a good start. And I hope by buying from George I continue getting Quality birds.

I actually prefer the ones with more Lavender. Half and half. Like isabel on the body, and lavender on the head, tail.

Oh well, I was going to show you the same pic you showed us, Lol! Anyway, Yeeeesss, they are BEAUTIFUL! Ooh-La-La! I have the same pic from George. His birds are Ooh-La-La and worth every penny!

LOL You're used to them. I can't tell a grey from a blue. And patterns on top....I also can't imagine how one could tell whether the partridge & grey are pure for pattern gene.
Your birds do look really pretty. Do you have any pics of your part way mille fleurs? I'd be curious to see how the pattern looks on a silkie.

Nice & confusing, the chap choosing to call his almost isobel silkies 'porcelain' but seems that's chickens.
