Thank you for all the advice! Sorry I never replied.

Turns out she might not have been broody after all and she never went back on the nest after these two times or maybe a third time.

But right after she got off, another one went on. I left her on your advice and she did get off on her own. But one night she was on there at like 10pm even with everyone else on the roost. I left her though.

I think she was back on yesterday or the other day but seemed to have gotten off the nest again.

Anyway, long story short, I don't think they were broody but the second Orpington (yes it was another Orpington lol) was definitely thinking about it.

The reason I thought they were broody is because they normally never sit on the nest like that and do stand up for themselves so it was strange behavior.

HOWEVER.

I just found that second hen again and she is DEFINITELY broody today.

I took her off the nest and she went without a fight, just a bit of noise. :lau

But WOW! The difference between a hen I THOUGHT was broody and one that ACTUALLY is is incredible!!

She was completely pancaked on the eggs!!

And considering I haven't collected the eggs in a few days, it's no wonder she went broody! There were more in the other boxes but not many

So from now on, I won't remove hens and will just leave them there.

But gosh, it's hilarious seeing an ACTUAL broody.

She looked more pancaked in real life than the pictures but yeah.

And I've decided that I'm not going to let them go broody because the coop and run is too small and dirty atm. Maybe once I finish the new coop and run. And I have to clean the run up and add some dry stuff, had so much rain lately

That's a lot of eggs.

Yup!! One of them is a fake but that still leaves 12. Good thing she didn't actually hatch anything... I'm sure she'd be overwhelmed with 12 babies, assuming all hatched. :lau

There were 21 eggs total.

Sorry they're not in a pretty egg basket, I just used what I brought out to refill the food haha

But yeah.

That's not even the most I've had, one time I had like 28 or 30. But I've been trying to collect them daily

You must not need your eggs either, though I collect multiple times a day, and feed most right back to my chickens. I stuff my eggs in my pockets, no basket here either.

Well, we have 26 eggs in the fridge alreasy, was closer to 2 1/2 or 3 dozen but we made 2 cakes today lol

Now with the addition of these eggs that's like 4 dozen!

We desperately need to eat some or give some away. I haven't been eating eggs or really any breakfast lately.

I don't use a basket when there's only a few out there or I forget to grab it but when all 8 or even like 6 choose to lay in a day then I'm paranoid I'll break them in my pockets or sometimes I don't have pockets. But it seems lately I forget the basket more and more lol but no way I could have carried 21 eggs in my pockets today. :lau

Oh and I forgot to mention, we do have a basket but I usually forget to use it. :lau I got a new one at Wal-Mart for like $4 a couple months ago and it's real sturdy :D we had this other one for over a year and I would have kept using it until it fell apart so bad that the eggs were falling out :lau

The basket is kind of inconvenient I find and I don't usually remember to bring it

But yeah, I've never seen a chicken pancake in person before, it was hilarious. Especially because the boxes aren't that big so she barely had room to do it

Edited because i forgot the never hah

The though of eating eggs this time of year turns my stomach, I can't eat no more. I also use my shirt if the pockets are full.

I just don't like them as much as I used to just because we have sooo many. I don't know, when I didn't have a constant supply I liked them better :gig

I'm going to try to eat them more.

But ohhh shirt is a good idea. But I'm too much of a klutz I think. I actually used to do that when they first started laying and I always seem to bump into things or drop them etc

Oh I wish my chickens didn't lay so much. I have had scrambled eggs in my pockets many times. The dogs always know when I'm loaded with them, and the bulldog comes at full speed. Little stinker.
