I noticed yesterday one of my laying hens had a small black/brown scab on the pad of her foot. I used to raise turkeys and had to deal with bumblefoot on a regular basis since we live in a wet area. I used to take it out myself at home and bandage the foot up. All of my turkeys healed up great after that. Would it be ok to do the same for a chicken? I have never had the issue with chickens as most of my coops have been raised off the ground. We don't have a vet nearby that can see her sadly so can I remove the plug and bandage it up? I'll get pictures asap.

As long as there isnt any redness, swelling nor limping, no minor surgery is required. Sometimes they disappear on their own.
Lower roosts for heavy breed birds and it would be best to eliminate high places where they can jump down, like lawn chairs and so on.
Use sandpaper to sand the roosts free from burrs and splinters.
