possible crop impaction

picked up one of my girls this morning and noticed her crop was still full and hadn’t emptied. my working plan is to massage and start the worming process before it becomes a sour crop.
when feeling the crop it really did not feel like fibrous material but instead grain, which makes me think it might be something intestinal more than hard to digest material.
the last treats they got were some extra grapes . the only other things that could have affected this were 1, we had a really bad thunderstorm last night that might have spooked them and 2. i mixed some grit in their food (usually don’t do this) because i didn’t want them eating off of the mud this morning.


Any tips?

i’m thinking just to cover my bases, can i use both corid and dewormer at the same time?

Is she eating and drinking? Grit needs to be in a separate container from feed of course, just like crushed oyster shell. I would feel of her crop early tomorrow morning before she has had a chance to eat or drink anything, to make sure that it is emptying. You could massage her crop several times to day, and make sure she is taking water. Coconut oil, chilled and cut into small pieces can be offered to help break up an impacted crop. Does she have any symptoms of coccidiosis? Dewormer can be used if she has not been wormed lately. Does she lay eggs?

1. as far as i can she she is eating and drinking and very alert, the only reason i found the impaction is because she tried to sneak through my feet and out the coop door and i had to pick her up to stop her from escaping
2. she has never been wormed, and is only about 8-9 months old
3. no symptoms of coccidiosis but in the past my flock has had an infection and we’ve had a lot of rain lately.
4. she lays eggs pretty prolifically on a good schedule

update!!!!

checked on her yesterday and her crop had emptied later in the day. gave her some food as an experiment and there was still some food in her crop this morning. maybe the changing seasons is affected when her crop empties?
