Possible dislocation of hip (s) and chicken sling

I am so sorry for your loss --- I am going to try your sling for a chick I was given by the feed store;; they thought it was a broken leg but upon closer inspection when I got home, I saw a swollen spot on the hip area and when I [gently] touched it I the chick really jumped! I am relatively sure that it is a hip injury. Thank you for posting this mam....... Funny how God works, eh? I would have never thought of a sling and I have been around horses all my life - seen any a sling... Sheesh.

I'm sorry about your loss. I've heard of slings used in extreme cases, but you have to be careful it doesn't put pressure on the crop or other vitals. A simpler solution in some cases is to use vet wrap (available at most any pet store, adhesive stretch gauze wrap) to give support to the strained limb. Make sure it isn't tight enough to impair circulation.

I am sorry to hear that you lost your Maleficient the Magnificent. She was a real beauty. I know you did all that you could & she knew too, I'm sure. I have a young girl (Violet, 13 wks) with a leg issue and your sling info will help me to help her. At least that's the plan. I don't see a break or any open skin, nor do I feel anything, but I'm not a Vet, haven't had an X-ray and chickens can be so darned wiley.

so sorry for your loss...she was beautiful and you did what you could....too bad no one responded before her passing. I'm a newbie and curious about one of my 2 mo. olds. Just felt the need to comment that someone else did care.

I have a three week old chick with a broken hip and some kind of tendon damage. Not sure how it happened but it's hard to watch the poor baby suffer. Not sure if I can help it but this helped me know others have went through this too. People do care. You did a great job.

So I've got a hen (3 weeks) with what I think is a broken or displaced hip...... We call her hoppy and she makes her way around ...... But the recent weather got her wet and cold and we almost lost her, husband found her and she put her in a cage with pine shavings, food, water, and a heat lamp..... She was up and very alert and eating ....... I've examined her and I think I will try to vet rap her hip up to try to get her to walk normal...... Just breaks my little heart....I always say only the strong survive in this farm. (But I've got a soft heart for the hurt)
