Possible Fowl Pox (Duck)

I'm not exactly sure what this is, but it's a dark, raised lump on my Pekin drake's bill. I'm wondering if it might be the start of Fowl Pox. It just showed up recently. Any ideas?

It almost looks like an injury with necrosis. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will reply.

Don't think it is a fowl pox.
The virus need live cells to replicate, the external keratin in the beak is not.

Just wanted to make sure it's not Fowl Pox because the last thing I need is that spreading to the whole flock.

If it's just an injury, do you think it will just heal on its own and the normal coloring of his bill come back?

how old is it
can you see anything in its mouth?

We do have an avian vet that we take our birds to, but I don't like to take them in unless the problem is really serious.

He's about a year and a half old. He's a pretty big boy (I'd guess 12 pounds ).

I haven't looked in his mouth, but I'll go do that.

Whatever it is, is discoloring his bill around the spot as well.

It's depends on how how deep the injury is, if it damage the maxilla, it could be permanent.
