Possible head concussion with one of my hens

Hi. I appreciate everyone's concern. Miss Bernice did pass this evening . I tried everything everyone suggested but it wasn't in her cards. My kids and I shed a few tears. I know it's just a chicken. But she was a living thing. I'm a huge empath and the emotions took over
We gave her a nice service. Rip Bernice 🙏
I am so sorry she passed away. And no-she is not just a chicken. She is a beautiful creature that God gave for you to care for and she gave you and your family so much love! May she rest in peace with God in heaven. 🙏:hugs💚🙏

Yes I did. The 4 year old seems somewhat remorseful but it's still a huge concern . It's definitely not normal behavior.
You all might disagree with me but I don't think it's necessarily a cause for concern unless the child has shown a pattern of this type of behavior. You've already said they've shown remorse, which is very important. Unless this child has been around animals on a consistent basis and has been educated on how to handle them, it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't realize doing something like that could kill a chicken.
I have several very young children and they all would understand that that behavior 1st of all is not acceptable but also that it could seriously hurt and kill the animal. But they have grown up on a Homestead and have helped us butchering and been around animals in all kinds of ways. Most kids don't have that experience.

Sorry to hear she didn't make it through.

I am so sorry for you loss. I am fortunate that my Grandchildren love my ducks and have been around them since day one of having them. The children are 1,5 and 9 and the older two are great at collecting eggs and feeding the ducks treats. If this 4 year old has not been exposed to the chickens and did not realize they are living beings and not something that can be mistreated then her behavior would not be shocking to me. Children need to be taught how to treat animals, it is not something that they just automatically know. Hopefully this event will make her realize how fragile animals are and that they cannot be mistreated. I am glad that she is going to be monitored from now on.
