I have chicken eggs that were set on April 30. They have now finished day 3. I candled them to check for cracks, etc (they were given to me fresh, not shipped). I see no air spaces; is that possible? Just poor lighting from candler? Does it even matter at this point?

All eggs are supposed to have an air cell. The eggs come out of the hen with an air cell (about the size of a dime) and get bigger during incubation. The air cell should be on the wide/fat end of the egg, not the pointy tip. You should candle again tomorrow (or tonight) and check again. If you don't see it then, try a brighter flashlight. And it is possible that the egg doesn't have an air cell.

So, I see airspace a in a few of my 12 eggs. I remember seeing them in all of my eggs last year...odd. Can an airspace still develop? My unserstanding Is that the airspace forms as the egg cools after laying. What bizarre thing would result in no air space?
