Our rooster is constantly sneezing but I see no drainage and he’s eating well. I have some doxycycline powder but how do I give it to just him? I want to keep him separated and dose him since none of the hens showing any symptoms. Does anyone know the dosage and for how long?

Have you added any new birds recently? Have you had your rooster long, or has there been any visitors to your home who have chickens? Sneezing only might be a symptom of a virus, infectious bronchitis or other. It does not respond to antibiotics and lasts about 3-4 weeks. It usually spreads to other birds. If he has bubbles or foam in his eye or crusty eye drainage or swelling, then I would start the antibiotic. Is this the same doxycycline powder you have?

If so, the dosage is on the package 1 tsp per gallon of water for 7-10 days. If you have a different kind, show the label.

Yes this is what I have! I have him separated. He is new to the flock and I thought I noticed sneezing almost two weeks ago but again no mucus or drainage, eyes look good. Idk if I should give doxy or VETRx for symptoms or what

I suspect constant sneezing might be due to something in the environment causing it. If it were a respiratory disease, other birds would be showing symptoms. Also, sick birds rarely eat or drink and show more symptoms other than just sneezing.
Here are some possibilities; inhaling feed dust causing the sneezing, dust from dust bathing, ammonia fumes from soiled bedding in the coop, improper ventilation, pollen, pesticide use, mold or mildew inside the coop etc...

I’ll also add this rooster has never crowed since he’s been here in two weeks. He hisses at you. I told the person we got him from and he said he has another rooster that never crows just squeaks and hisses… sounds like a human with laryngitis at times

That’s what my husband thinks…environment. When we picked him up with two hens, I felt like he was sneezing some then but the guy said that’s just the noise he makes . I don’t think so. I will say that the environment he was in was not the cleanest as far as chicken pens go but the hens came from the same pen.

If you have had him only two weeks, where did you get him? Incubation for respiratory diseases can show up from a few days to a couple of weeks. He might have picked up something or brought it with him. It is always good to quarantine for a month just in case something like this happens. Most respiratory viruses and bacterial infections will make them carriers.

He is quarantined. I’m just confused with the sneezing and no other symptoms, also he eats and drinks.
