We added a couple of birds to our flock recently, and this morning one of them started letting out, in my wife's words, "murder screams." We're still relatively new to this, so we're not sure if we might have a rooster or not.

She's a white ameraucana, just shy of three months old. I can't see that her saddle or hackle feathers are particularly pointy, but it's tough with the all white. Her comb is a lot wider than any of our other hens, but everything we have is a different breed, so we can't really compare apples to apples.

What do you think? Is it possible to tell yet whether he have a hen or rooster on our hands?

Some cockerels show pointy saddle and hackle feathers at three months but a lot don't. I think that is a cockerel. The comb and what wattles are coming in are bright red, that's a pretty good sign at that age. The tail feathers also look like they are starting to curl down. The legs do not look particularly heavy but the general posture looks male to me. Don't do anything dramatic yet but I'm pretty sure it is a cockerel.

Yes rooster...and not a White Ameraucana.

You've got a white Easter Egger, and not particularly close to the original Ameraucana parent...probably the offspring of an EE with an EE or even an EE with a White Leghorn as the pea comb is modified and body type resembles a White Leghorn.

Could be a boy. But like Lady of McCamley said, that's an EE, not Ameraucana. The green legs are of EE characteristics while Ameraucana's have blue.

Looks like one of McMurray's -Whiting True Blues- to me. Could just be Easter Egger as well, not an Ameraucana that's for sure. Also looks to be a cockerel to me too.
