Update 4:

We went to the vet and $260 later it was confirmed that it’s likely coccidiosis and other internal parasites that are causing this - in the fecal exam he found a couple nematode eggs. The vet gave her a dingle dose dewormer on site as well as 3 syringes with 0.4ml Baycox coccidiocide to give one a day for 3 days as well as continuing giving her glucose, iron (in the form of molasses and electrolytes) and protein (in thenform of eggs/feed) and vitamins which is basically what we’ve been doing already. He said that her intestines are ruined and we need to treat the issue then offer supportive care.
What shocked us is when he said that BB weighs the same amount as her 6 week old chick (525g) , she’s malnourished. I’m relieved to know that she isn’t going to drop dead during the night but that doesn’t mean she’s not severely sick. I’m praying for a speedy and healthy recovery and I’m doing everything within my power to do so!

How is BB doing today?

A little bit better, thank you for asking. She’s moving a bit now but it’s very rigid and staticky, reminds me of a broken animatronic. When we’re feeding her she’ll lift herself up a bit and then slowly sink down. She’s also moving her head a bit but her eyes are still closed. Sometimes she’ll have times where she’ll buck almost like a horse then fall down on her side. We have her in a towel nest just to keep her upright. We’re syringe feeding her slowly but often because I’m now worried about asphyxiation because her neck is weird. Ive heard her wheeze a few times after she’s eaten so we’re just being extra careful with that.

I brought her and Phoebe outside for 5 mins and the hens weren’t particularly nice to them. I’m not worried about reintegration as much as I am just getting BB to open her eyes. Phoebe also is 6 weeks old today! She’s developing some nice grey action on her tail, feet and the ends of her wings so it’ll be interesting to see her final colours!

Here they are right after a little meal of egg yolk, Phoebe is very good at cleaning her mother’s beak and face feathers… not sure how much she appreciates that though 😅

I just read through your thread on BB. What ended up happening?
She passed on the evening of August 25. We had her scheduled for euthanasia the next day because the respiratory infection symptoms came back and she was essentially drowning in her own mucus. The antibiotics didn’t help her and she was getting weaker beyond we knew was possible. It was her time ❤️

I am so sorry for your ordeal. Rest in peace sweet BB. ❤️

Sorry to hear that. You guys did the best you could for BB. 😔

How is little Phoebe?
Phoebe as well as my rooster and one of my pullets were tragically taken by a fox on Sunday the 12th. I am so heartbroken as Phoebe was just getting used to flock life without his momma. The only times the fox has come is when my dog was away and it was on Sunday I brought her to work with me at the dog kennel. The first time was on Sept 2 and it took our cockerel Plum, again when my dog was away at the kennel. Now, my remaining 2 hens are in the run and coop all day and free ranging when we’re able to be outside with them in the evening.

I miss my flock greatly, it’s so upsetting to see how much destruction can happen in such a little time.
