Adding the cockerel/rooster could well have knocked the egg laying on it's head. Chickens don't like change and youngsters at that age are already going through the stress of adolescence. Add to that the demands of a strange testosterone pumped male and they are bound to be unsettled, especially if you have also had stormy weather.

So pleased you had a faecal float done at the vets rather than just pump unnecessary chemicals into them like so many other people do. Routine testing is much better than routine worming. Would you mind telling us how much the testing cost and have you considered that your state veterinary diagnostics lab would probably be a cheaper option than the vets and the sample can usually be sent in the mail. Here in the UK there is a private lab that does this testing and operates a wonderful mail order service for about £10 a sample including return postage and sampling kit..... I'm just wanting to encourage people to get testing done here and let people know that it doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. If it is cheaper and easier than worming then hopefully more people will be inclined to use such services. Hope you aren't offended by me asking and using your thread to potentially encourage others to this course of action.
