Here is what I think of as my ugliest bird. But alot of people love Turkens, and don't think of them as ugly. She is fine though, just not looking her best this morning.
My daughter named her Chickee when she was a wee chick.

Not a very good photo actually. The angle is wrong. Worry.

So, Terrie said no wound photos...but what about a special needs bird?

Here is Professor:

He is my EE FrankenChicken. He had a severely crossed beak; he had a very long lower beak that stuck out so far he couldn't force it into food anymore and began losing lots of weight. But when I took him to the vet to have it trimmed, it BROKE. This then went into a saga of surgery, pins and staples to hold it together, and a lower beak prosthesis, finally it healed together, the prosthesis and metal were all removed, and now he has a CHIN! It will grow out to be a long beak again, but still going sideways rather than forward.

His upper beak was trimmed WAY back to a nub, but has since gown out- this blunted it a bit and made it so he could grab things better, using his tongue.

He's a wonderful, loving, sweet, gentle, babied, spoiled rotten pain-in-the-pinfeathers. He has to be hand groomed, and because he's still growing, has a zillion feathers to preen- he can spread the oil, but he can't 'shell' the feathers.

He has to be fed 3 times daily a paste, which he flings all over and takes a half hour to eat. He has to be dropper-watered, and when it's hot out, it's impossible to figure out how much he needs.

We love him anyway, but wouldn't make the choice to keep him had we it all to do again. What's done is done, and we will work like dogs to care for him for good!

ETA- His hens like to preen the food out of his beard after he eats- they preen away his feathers, too!! He's got a naked neck-front and giant chops...reminds me of facial hair in the late 70's /early 80's!!

A question about FrankenChicken.....are you using him for breeding after having a crossbeak? Why pass that on? Just wondering. I am fairly new to chicken keeping but have selectively bred other animals.
