Ok, I don't have pics yet but I'm so excited I want to share the news. My hubby just brought home 2 female Crested Pekins I found on CL, YEEE! They are SO cute! As soon as we put them down they wobbled right up to our Swedish, lol. Can't wait to show pics tomorrow!

Cayuga ducks can hatch with a faint bib on the front but in pure Cayugas this disappears (by about 5 or 6 weeks of age). The presence of a faint bib si just something that goes hand in hand with black ducklings and doesn't mean the duckling is not a Cayuga. So, even the one with the bib could turn out the one colour all over.

Some of my Black East Indies ducklings have bibs and some don't.

cocoa: I see what you are saying with the different coloring. I have noticed a lot of feathers coming off in baths and stuff but they are only almost 3 weeks old. The big ducks didn't start getting big feathers for a few more weeks so I am interested to see what colors they end up having. I guess we have a few weeks to a month to see what they end up looking like. I would really like to have something we don't have, that is the only reason I am hoping for something other then runners.

I hope you end up with something different too! Even black ducklings can look kinda grey at first (due to all the fuzz). As you say, it'll all become clear when they get their proper feathers :)

Their first swim.

Aw, they are so cute. How completely adorable.

My tub ducky wants to play with your tub duckies, cskotek!
Hehe your duck seems to be having a ball!!! I love when my ducks get along with others but right now for some reason the mallards that stay outside are trying to mount the female runner duck which dosent work out because the mallard is so short and winds up standing on her back LOOL..... But i hope that ends soon... if not anyone know how to make it stop?? its happening in the water and i dont want her to drown and shes lost a patch of feathers.... So any ideas??

Well, we've had our ducks for a little over 2 weeks (we got them from TSC). They were originally for my daughter... but I think the whole family has really fallen in love with them.

I'm pretty sure that Phineas and Ferb (the mallards) are females. They're starting to get their feathers in, and on their tummies they look like they are striped. Every time we let them swim now we get a bathtub with all kinds of tiny dark feathers in it! We put them outside for the first time yesterday which is where these pictures came from/

Little Phineas

Ferb is in a pie tin. We're in the process of getting their enclosure ready. I know we need to hurry because soon enough they're going to be too big for my bath tub!!

Very cute duckies. Just so you know though, its nearly impossible to tell the sex of the Mallards until their first molt around December. Until then both males and females look alike and have the brown feathers. DD and I were just looking this us yestarday because it looked like all 7 of ours were going to be females and I was thinking that would be really odd for getting all female from a straight run .

We got a storm come thru last night. It was the first one since the ducklings have been outside. It took them a little bit but eventually they found the mud puddles lol.
