Hi folks, I am trying to help find meal prep ideas for my mother-in-law after her gallbladder removal surgery today. I am seeking some folks with experience having their own removed or who may know what the best things to eat would be for her? I am trying to make her some small meals and snacks so she doesn't have to cook. Thanks for any help and recipe ideas!

So I had emergency surgery to remove a failing/dying gall bladder at 23, so my experience may not be the same as others.

Absolutely nothing fatty or fried. About a year later I was able to have more organic fatty food like peanut butter, but still have issues with anything fried. Some other things to avoid for a couple weeks would be red meats, anything super cheesy like Mac and cheese, ice cream, things with a lot of butter, etc. I’d also avoid overly acidic things like orange juice or lemonade.

I liked having popsicles on hand after my surgery. The surgery can make your throat hurt if they used a breathing tube during it and it is a huge relief. Gatorade was good too for the electrolytes. More bland staple foods liked cooked chicken, pasta dishes light on cheese. Fresh fruit that is a bit easier on the stomach like strawberries and pears are good.

You received good advice from Jane820. 2 family members in my family are currently without gallbladders. Main thing after initial recovery,,, and for the rest of life,,,,, limit the amount of FAT consumed in diet. That does not mean no fat totally,,,,, it just means as little as comfortable. If fat eaten in excess, then the trip to bathroom is sometimes way too soon.
WISHING your MIL, a speedy recovery. :hugs
