Post Office would not ship my eggs!

Put them in a plain box and do a carrier pickup or take them to another PO. Sounds like this lady doesn't know what she's talking about.

What did you have on the box for labeling? If it says "hatching eggs" you may wish to consider changing the label to "eggs for hatching" - I've heard several folks speak of people thinking the same thing your PO thought- that the eggs were hatching in the box right then & there! Sheesh.

You don't need to tell them WHAT it is, just that its not dangerous, flammable, a firearm or illegal, thats all. We live in a small town
and the postal workers are some of the most nosy people ever.
On the other hand, when we receive a live goose or other live
fowl, they call the moment they open and meet us at the back door
and almost always want to see what we've received.
We received a 25 lb Sebastopol Gander from Kansas last month,
the postmaster was feeding him lettuce through the box holes
while we were on the way to pick him up. Too funny.
If you can make friends with the counter people at the Post
Office it will help you.

I was just following the advice here on packing & shipping eggs. Marking the box - Fragile, Do Not X-Ray, etc.

I guess maybe I'll try the plain box route. Ridiculous!

I have received eggs, and live chicks at this same PO before.

I bet they will never call you back!

Arrogant, irresponsible USPS booms will never admit they'd done anything wrong, ever!

I'm off back to the Post Office. They never called me back.

If they won't take it, then I'm headed to another PO seven miles away. And I have a plain box and another label just in case.

Thanks for the advice. I'll post when I get back and let you know if it shipped or not.

good idea! I must think they are idiots sometimes thinking BIRD FLU is on their minds!

Yes, confront them with the acceptance of your package from another PO and watch them squirm! I did that with my PO when they refused to ship my birds to NY and I drove up to Bloomington's PO and they did ship the birds. The next day I showed them my verification and payment tags on the birds being shipped out and they gave me another excuse why they dont ship because the airport is too far!!! It is only seven freaking miles from this PO and most of their mails came FROM AND TO the airport!

I have a very good friend who is the "upper crust" postal official in Illinois and he oversees alot of the post office here in the central and northern PO and he said they MUST take lives and hatching eggs regardless of what excuse they have and they MUST give you a time and date to ship or to receive the birds. However they will NOT ship birds in hot weather from end of May or June to Sept except for chicks and hatching eggs which they can tolerate higher temps but they do have to exercise CARE of chicks out on the terminal between flights or sitting out there in the heat.

So thats all the juice I got going here and they must accept your pkg of eggs. There are no rules that you can NOT ship eggs but just wrap them carefully and pack them well along with some newspapers around the inside box or line it with paper in case the eggs spilled.
