Post Phoenix Pics Please

I'm still at the fair (the only APA show on this side of the state), I brought my silver pyle (white) cockerel, a light brown cockerel, a light golden cockerel, a couple silver pullets, and the silver pyle girl. So far, only one of the silver girls and the pyle girl will cooperate with me to get cell phone pics so here they are!

beautifulllllllllll

So to make the polish longtail, my thought would be to cross a polish & phoenix then cross that to a phoenix again to get longer tailand everything, then back cross to a polish and just keep zig-zag breeding back and forth until you get a good crest size and good length of feather. Seems like it could be done in a few years easy

I tried to get some more pics this morning but the birds were tired and cold so these will do. This silver pullet is a LF from McMurray, we got her just for fun and she looks ok for a hatchery bird. The cockerel is the brother to the silver bantam pullet I posted earlier

I think if it were me, I would outcross to the polish once. Breed f1's.. Select the best f2 and breed that to a high quality phoenix (nonmolting) producing the f3 generation. I would then take the f3's and breed the best birds to each other and be done.. The f4 should be pretty good looking. would be 3/4 phoenix and 1/4 polish at that point.. If necessary you could repeat the outcross to phoenix and then offspring to offspring again.. But you need to breed offspring to offspring to increase your chances of getting a bird homozygous for gt, nm, etc.. And also for crest size and feather quality.. Food for thought..

She's a beauty :)

Ok, so I'm not much on bantams, but this little cockerel has really caught my eye.. I used the line he came from with my ohiki this last year..

We have a Silver Phoenix cockerel, hatched March 2012, from the Exhibition Breeding Program of the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. We can deliver him to the APA National at Lucasville, Ohio October 6-7. This family hatched to many and passed him on to me. We plan on entering him at Lucasville, so we have a place to house him. PM for more information.

What do you all think about him?
