So if one of those chicks is a ginger then the white cock has got to be a silver ginger blue splash if all the chicks come blue and the mom was bb red.... And if any female chicks are silver base.i.e. gold.. Ginger is not a recessive gene.TM

ok.. I assumed the bbred was from him.. Definately a splash then.. Been working hard on them trying to get solid blues.. Used my white line extensively to try and develope the tails on them.. The unfortunate result is high percentage of white offspring from them. His dad is a silver duckwing.. but I kept breeding the hens back to the original roos..

Toni, I meant to tell you too. There was one ohiki roo I did not check for blood feathers.. The large birchen one.. So when I checked him, here is what I found.. Jerry said he put on a 3 ft tail.. fingers crossed..

All mine are like that...But I guess 9 years of working on them I know my birds pretty well...You should have a red ginger roo that gets a long tail also. Check him to if you got him...Good luck...TM

It sounds like that's what is going on for sure....And yes your right...A split for ginger can only have a few red feathers on the side of the breast and still produce a ginger when breed to duck-wing. Not often but yes it can. I've done that quite a few times with the Ohiki and especially anything with yoko in the back ground. Those are notorious for doing that....It make a beginner really stumble around when that comes upNot saying that you are... Because it makes it seem that ginger is recessive but its not. Some times we refer those odd ginger splits as Cryptic Gingers.... TM

Even those few feathers will make him look so pretty...It takes 2 years for a Ohiki to fully feather...Slow but worth the wait. I like breeding birchens to gingers...seems to clean up stippled gingers...TM
