Post Phoenix Pics Please

That picture you posted is one of the prettiest birds I've ever seen. Somehow I'll bet "splash red mottled" isn't easy to come by lol!

You have officially made my whole month guessing pullet on that picture! Thank you.

LOL. Glad your month is made.. hehe.. I am not sure there are any other splash red mottles out there, but there very well could be... I'm not the only one who plays with genetics..

I got a pair of F1 outcrossed pyles I made last year, honestly If I didnt tell you they were crosses, you'd never know they werent pure, even got pretty darn good feather lenght. Of course that was just luck, It usually takes several several years to finish an outcross, and I by no means am calling these phoenix, but it was nice to see just how quick they took type. With a few more gos, I should have some really nice unrelated red pyles to add to my others. Of course doing it with a lot of different colors too. But was sure glad to see how well these worked. Had a spare ohiki male I put with a gold laced bird , she's on 12 eggs right now. Figured he wasnt doing anything at the moment, so thought I'd work on some laced ohiki too, thinking that would look really nice on them
PRETTY MIX BREED! lol> about a year old now.. this should be encouragement for anyone who wants to start out on a longtail project.. You can get new colors and achieve good type as well.. It just takes time and work.. .. and prayer......

LOL> Too funny.. Been working on laced myself.. Got polish laced phoenix, and some laced crosses that look like minohiki type.. Just been playing around.... Would love to see how yours turn out..

amanda what do the Polish crosses look like? Do they have awkward crests or do they have full crests like the polish and long tails? That red pyle is so gorgeous, what is he crossed with?

Well, I used a pattern gene birchen phoenix hen.. I want my tails laced!.. The chicks pretty much look like polish chicks with smaller crests and beards.. I will actually be working on this cross from another angle at the same time, but I had the polish so I thought worst case scenario, I would have some really nice tailed polish.. They are too young to tell much about yet..
That isn't a red pyle.. He has no dom. white in him.. He is a splash red mottled and I am debating on running an auction on one dozen eggs.. Haven't decided yet. The tails are great on them and I have him with 5 blue red hens.. So half the offspring will be splash red (like him) and half blue red roughly.. But I have to get some more in the bator before I decide to do that.. Then he will go back on tomebaku to continue to grow his tail out... I have red pyles coming along also, but they are not this far along in tail yet..

I actually would like to see a dom white mottled red ginger.. Red with white tail and white mottling... I think that would be a pretty amazing looking bird~
you know if anyone wants a new project.. LOL>

aint that the truth. If anyone ever tells you they know everything there is to know genetics wise, they are crazy... theres always something new to learn.

Will keep you posted on my laced projects Amanda, hope to have some nice ones going a couple years.
I agree too on the dom white based red mottled, that would be awesome in any breed, but especially a long tail, wonder if it would ever be possible not to dilute the red to gold with it though, pretty much that's what a goldneck is, a dom white mille.
I've got a dom white ginger red hen Toni gave me a year or two ago, she is orange too. Breeding her to that good shojo male I got. She was a cross, but looking decent on the chicks so far.
