Post Phoenix Pics Please

HAHAHA DARN YOU GUYS MAKE ME JEALOUS!

Mine are producing a lot but not hatching well... Suggestions?

Also, I have a broody hen. I might use her instead of an incubator for pheasant and other phoenix eggs... Suggestions?

same here on hatch rates, as close to maintaining 100% fertility as you can get. Most doing really well on the shipped ones too. Hatching about 100-150 a week, running out of room.

You may have too young of a male, not sure what you have. but a young male could be part of the issue, and of course you have all your incubator stuff set right I assume?

Aside from that, phoenix usually hatch best for me of all the breeds I keep. Usually if it, fertile, it hatches.

Are you having sterile issues or ones just not making it all the way?

If it's the first, my bet would be a bad or young male

if it's the second, you may have an icubator issue

My phoenix rooster, as you can see in my display is the brood cock. He is young, he's only a year old. However, he is doing a decent job of breeding for a young little guy. Last time I incubated 22/26 were fertile. However only about 16 or so hatched. And only 7 are remaining.

I think it's the incubator? I bought a thermometer/hygrometer. Hopefully that can help me out...
Any suggestions?

I just ordered some pheasant eggs, what should I do? Put them under a hen? or incubate them?

yes dvang
That's what I'd do, broody hen. I have raised about every species of pheasant there is too keep over the years. If you are having hatch issues with chickens, it'll be nightmare with pheasants they are finicky to start with.

Do a check up on your incubator and see if that's it, my bet is yes if they dye mid set. Now sometimes, they just do it. I'll have a few here and there over a hatch that stop, that's just part of it.
What brand incubator do you use?
Reason I ask is I see a lot of folks with the cheap Little Giants.... they wont hatch squat!! I've had them wont even use it as a hatcher any more.
Had over 20 people contact me with issues like yours, every one was using a digital thermostat Little Giant.

For a small scale incubator you cant beat a Hovabator... they'll hatch eggs that werent fertile I believe, LOL
I have 6 of them as well as Sportsman cabinet incubators, all work great year after year.

There's something wrong with the LG's though, they'll have a 10 degree swing in temp and the slightest room temp change will send them all over the place temp wise.

Also bacteria in used incubators is an issue. It can effect hatch rates too. Also wash out a sanitize after each hatch. I also put a spoon full of bleach in the water each week. It works great in controlling bacteria, odor and the like. Doesnt hurt a thing egg wise either, have done it for years.

Your roos is fine sounds like, just got to be an incubator issue of some form.

Hope that maybe helped a bit

I was about to say the same thing.. Bacterial organisms lerking inside an incubator can be a big issue...They get into a egg in about 1 1/2 week mark... Good old bleach is best..."But" stiro incubators break down real fast with the use of bleach..I here it causes big time leakage and insulating factors are not as good also... TM

Devang3 Just a heads up there are no american onagadori....We call them non-molting longtails. Our birds are not refined enough and dont meet Onagadori standards yet. Did you ever find the birds your were looking for a while back??. Toni-Marie
