Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Hi everyone, i am finally able to join the ORP club with my 2 new girls

they splash is called Peppa but i haven't come up with just the right name for the blue one yet. :)

Beautiful girls!

thankyou, i am so in love with them, especially the blue one. i got them from a breeder and am waiting till spring to order some eggs from another breeder but i need to wait till someone goes broody and it is still too cold here, only about half of my girls have started laying again. They are a rare breed here in Aus so it is hard to get hold of them and expensive, these 2 girls cost me $70 and a dozen eggs are going to cost me $80

Organizing some of my pics on the laptop and thought I would add some to this posting/site.

This first one is of our Buff Orpington rooster, Akmed, taken about the end of June. he was a wonderful friendly roo but just a bit rough on the ladies. During the warmer month of July he went to freezer camp, but not before giving us some eggs which yielded (looks like at this time-8 week old) two new cockerels.

This second pic is again of Akmed and his leading lady Madonna two days after we purchased them in April.

I'll try to get some new pics of the hens, pullets and chic posted a little later as I can find more time.

Lovely girls you have! I have Orpingtons as well; love their sweet temperament and beauty. This is a wonderful Orp. thread where you will find very successful, top Orpington breeders who graciously share their knowledge.

I live in N. Ca. and the regular price for pullets are $ 40.00 to $ 50.00 each for pet / egg layers. Breeding quality birds from good bloodlines shall be much higher, and they are worth every penny of it. I believe same applies to the egg prices.

I wish you best of luck in your Orp. endeavor.

Creme Legbars are cool. Don't know about temperament but any crested bird that lays a blue egg is cool in my book lol. Do get Bella buff orp eggs though next year or we'll all be swimming over to pinch you.

Hi Galanie, your golden girls are so pretty! I wish you joyful, very happy life in your new home.

One of my friends have Cream Legbars, which I believe she purchased the original birds from GFF. Like you, I love the color of their eggs, and the birds are very pretty, specially the boys. She has about 20 adults who are very high strung, active and flighty birds, and the boys are quite aggressive. Just about every night she is doing CL harvesting from the trees. I was considering of having couple of girls but, changed my mind due to my bobcat problems. My friend has low fruit trees but I have very tall redwoods which would be impossible for me to get them down therefore easy prey...

Thank you for the complement!
Something about crested birds, I like the look but have yet to hear of a crested breed other than silkies that have a calm temperament. Love the idea of a creme legbar but the reality, yeah, probably we're both glad we don't have any.
