Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Welcome to the crazy life of orpingtons. Once you have all the colors you will want some Dels then some BR etc.

they love to get you in trouble for sure. My orps usually lay around the 20 something weeks. Later than earlier, but such nice eggs. Last year they layed all winter through. This year they molted and were so pitiful looking I forgave them for not laying consistantly. They still lay but not as often. Soon they will be through their molt. Then I will be in egg heaven again. The buffs are really sweet and the blues a primadonas. Don't touch me and will scream. I think this year I will get some blacks and more of the buffs, gotta have some dells too. Oh my, That means I have to downsize what I have which is terribly hard. I get to loving them too much and naming them.

I guess the mind control thing has me.

It really depends on the strain that you have. I know some of the show strains that dont lay until 6 months but then there are other strains that are more production strains that lay closer to 20 weeks

Congrats on your bator full of Orp eggs. I'm sure that you will love them as much as I do !! I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be after the other colors soon. I raise Blue, Black, and Splash, but would love to get some other colors imported from the UK.

As far as laying, it depends on if yours are more of a production line or not. My Orps are imported from the UK and they generally don't start laying until around 10 months. Good luck with your hatch Ginger! I know you will really enjoy them and be as addicted to orps as the rest of us.

We're still enduring the lovely weather inside and safe.
Unice is fed and watered and happy.

Here are my first Orpingtons. I got the eggs from gumpsgirl. I really like them so far. I can't believe how BIG they are already at just 8 weeks.
This is Tonks. I'm pretty sure she is a pullet.

This is Snoopy. Undecided about this one.

This is Linus. Pretty sure he's a cockerel. He's the only Splash.

And this big boy is Fred. Absolutely no doubts about him.
