Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I have just hatched 26 more chicks. Or let me say I have 25 and the last one is pipping. The week olds are moving to a outside brooder tomorrow. I moved anther group out this morning. I couldn't stand them being even in the laundry room this long till I found those equine pine pellets and man they work good. They just don't stink like when they are on shavings. Keeps the littler dry. You can scoop it out daily if nessecary and add a few more pellets. Even easy to scoop out.

I have to say the week old Charlies I hatched last week are just so pretty and very large chicks. may be the prettiest batch i have hatched so far. One splash is really large. I need to take a picture but I am so tired from working all day and planted sweet potatoes and , squash and tomatoes and peppers late this afternoon . Worked in the yard. WE have company coming the next two weekends.
I unsucessfully tryed to move a broody hen yesterday and today. I d on't know why some are so easy and some are not.

Well I am done for now. My next hatch isn't coming off for 14 more days. Whoo hooo Thank goodness they won't hatch on Mothers day.

Ya know, I have about 150 babies brooding right now. So far, all is well. They certainly grow quickly! I was fortunate to sell off a large number of culls last week, and have 3 open pens and another coop, for the brooder babies to be moved to (very soon). They do keep me very busy! I just can't let them go until they grow out. I know you understand that, right?

Horse feathers I am sitting here with two boxes full of black chicks. I hatched a bunch last thurs and another big batch today. I have one left pipping. I have moved about 12 to their temporary box and the rest are still drying. I am about done with blacks for this year. I gave Imogene the first batch I hatched in Jan and wouldnt you know she got all pullets except for two cockerels. The next batch I hatched for myself is a little more than half on the cockerels. They hatched FEb 1st and have been crowing for a month now. I need to get rid of all of them except the two I want to keep. LOL.

I am extremely bad about eliminating birds. I carry way too many cockerels. I think I have 4 Blacks and Julie Blue boy "Doc". I have 4 Buff cockerels. Soon to be three. As you know it is not easy finding a typee male to put ones faith in. I have 2 good buffs and 3 good BBS's. And I do a form of trap breeding. I only use the girls I want for each cycle. I just need to build a small pen for each of my 5 hens I have that is from different bloodlines. Then play round robin with my boys.

Wow, I wouldn't want to tangle with those two. The brown one looks like a bear. they look like retreiver mixes. Are they a breed i don't know abouit.

I have been putting them right on them. I buy the ones at TSC in the blue and white plastic bag. I have them in a large cardboard box with a clamp light hanging over the side. The bottom of the box has not even been getting damp. Here is a pic
