How old is Charlie, Julie?

He's very nice. Love the lacing on the blue pullet!

I almost forgot... 9 babies hatched from my shipped eggs... 4 splash, 3 blue, 2 black!! Here's just a couple of photos.

They weren't all out of the brooder when I started taking photos. Orpingtons have to be some of the most photogenic babies out there.

I wish I would have taken pictures of mine when they got their shoulder pads. It was the cutest thing with their shoulder feathers coming in but not much of anything else feathering in.

But on a happy note, my blue Orp baby turned out to be a girl!

2 splash are boys, 1 splash is a girl and 1 iffy one, but leaning towards boy.

ETA: it just shows you that the biggest chick that hatches with the biggest comb doesn't always turn into a boy.

So far one is out and moving around the bator, another is pipping.

Those pictures of Lucy are very charming, what a little momma.

Also one of my splash pullets, Garnet - from Gumpsgirl's eggs is broody.

Mrs. A Bird Brain, Charlie is nearly two. Good news is he is still very fertile. Maybe I can use him another year in the Breed pens, or two.
So happy for you on your good 9 chick hatch. Our mutual friend was telling me the good news.

HorseFeathers I am so glad your hatching babies. I have chicks pipping myself. I have three boxes of chicks in the house right now. I have got to get them moved out. I love to hear them though and walk by and sit in the window seat and watch a while. Thanks to those pine pellets I can let them stay in a bit longer. It is so amazing how much they grow from week to the next. I have been doing this for a long time and it never gets old hatching new babies.

I am about to upload some old photos of Charlie for some comparison.

Here is Charlie at a week over 3 months and then I will post his splash offspring.

This is for Body type comparisons

BTW I have several really nice splash cockerels younger than these two that need a new home. I am only keeping one splash.

Thank you... as you can imagine, I am tickled pink. Or blue and splash, as the case may be.

Very happy. 9 is my lucky number with Orps... 9 last time, 9 this time! LOL! Now, hopefully they won't turn out to be 6 males and 3 females again!

I am happy to hear that Charlie is two... my Bob will be 2 in August, and I wondered about whether I could keep him in the breeder pen one more year. So far the fertility is excellent, so

?

This week seems to be rolling hatches, every 2 days... just moved 8 babies to a brooder to make room for a bunch more... like you said, it never gets old.

Though hubby will not be happy with me if I don't move the brooder out of the bedroom.
