I would say at 6 months your safe to mix in the layer pellets 50/50 for a while and then get them to just layer pellets

Would you keep using grower/finisher feed at this point, or is layer feed okay since they can actually lay any day?

My new black/split guy is so sweet. Orp roos have to be one of my favorites- right up there with LF cochins and Ameraucanas. I've been wanting a black roo for so long. Yay!

I have a question about photographing lavenders. I like the look of the lav against green grass, but they always look so washed out when they are outside. Is there a certain time of day, or in the shade? What shows thier color best?

See? She's not really that light. Have the same problem with pics of my sebastopols- they almost glow and you can't see the detail of the feathers.

I have never had any yellow skinned birds from them. I wonder if they do have rocks or wyandottes and you just got something from the wrong pen. Does she have a single comb?

No- they should be on layer by now, with free choice oyster shell as well.

I cannot get my birds to eat pellets, so they are all on crumble feed, no matter what age.

Since my goal from these birds was to add size and beauty to my flock and decide what I thought of 'show' birds, I'm not overly concerned. These two birds have very sweet temperments, which is important after our aggresive hatchery BO. Thank you all for your advice and thoughts.

and her comb is very small, but it is single.

Just relooked at the bottom of her feet (in sunlight vs. artificial light last night) and I'd say the bottom of her toes are pink with the skin between the toes more yellow, and the splash is about the same. I have BRxBO who has bright yellow feet, and this pair's yellow is much, much lighter. Tomorrow I'll wash their feet and take pictures; today is go to town day.

That is interesting! My buff was used to pellets but since I got the blue I haven't bought pellets.
I was thinking pellets would be better to feed in winter; idk they won't blow away and are more substantial/solid?
The big bag I just bought will last a long while, maybe next time.​
