Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Ivermectin isn't a complete wormer at all. It will help if they have mites, etc. but I learned from experience not to depend on it. I am pretty sure thedragonlady has a better suggestion.

I have a very good Nikon microscope, and I run my own fecals. I have for years, for my dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs, dairy goats, sheep, and birds. My state vet advised 1 teaspoon of Safeguard Goat liquid wormer, well shaken, per gallon of water for three days, a new solution daily. This stuff works. No parasites, and I repeat every 6 weeks. The microscope tells the story.

Think of how chickens live. They continually infect themselves, even if not over crowded. They poop on the ground , and eat off it. No telling what the wild birds bring in too. They eat earthworms, which carry gapeworm, with gusto. If you want maximum growth and condition , you must worm often.

Can you give each bird so much? Like a drench.

Is there a hold time before you can eat the eggs again? We consume our eggs (daily) and chickens (seldom but we do). Thank you.

0.1 cc per bird..it really works great Don..she suggested it to me a while ago as I was just using wazine..after a while you do see more weight feeding less trying to keep them nice shape..they are more robust..

I have one bird that is a problem child...not an orp..hes mean, bites...ect...ect...I just put his 0.1 cc measured in small syringe onto couple little peices of bread..down the hatch it goes..

its really recomended for most all wormers 2 weeks befor egg consumption.. you could probably do a rotation..do some, in 2 wks do the others if your dependant on some eggs..beleive me..worms can make it into eggs if they get enough of a parasite load ..its not pretty , saw a web site where a woman cracked an egg with worms in it..BLUK!

I was dosing each bird with the Safeguard, but this is more effective, and a whole lot easier. The generel rule for wormers is that if the ingredient is not labeled for use on egg laying hens, you should not consume the meat,or eggs for 30 days in case someone might be allergic to any of the ingredients. We use the eggs, or hatch them, but neither of use is sensitive. This drug IS used on people in third world countries as is ivermectin. I would not sell anyone eggs though.

I like giving each bird a dose. Putting it in the water is much easier, but if you have a sick one he might not drink, I guess in 3 days they would. I have never used Safeguard, I know Safeguard makes one of the better horse wormers. My vet has a sheep and goat wormer called Valbenzen and I think I spelled that wrong, that I use. I also pour on the Ivomec 2 or 3 times a year. When I worm my young birds I use the Warine, it's mlid and gets the rounds and that's about it.

Hi all! Your birds are beautiful - definately have Orpingtons on my list! fairly new to having chickens, Had no idea there were so many different varieties. Your Orpingtons are sooo lovely!! cant wait til spring....
