Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

my retired police friend who shows chickens twists off the spurs..puts blood stop powder on them.he does it early in the year.
I have honestly never seen anything quite like it..he had his son did it as he's older and needs a little help...what I couldn't believe was when they did That, there was a small nub spur under the big long one they removed...I just watched them his son held the bird,
He balanced the leg between his fingers So not to hurt the leg bone and twisted it right off..I've never tried
This but he swears this was Common practice for show people long time ago..I keep a drawer of hen aprons because I wouldn't trust to try it.

If Monty had been very rough, would you have culled him?
If that had been the case I would have A -Id him , and culled him, and any of his Ks that were too rough.I have no use for super agressive , rough Orps. I like my hens too much for them to have to endure spousal abuse.

I always put my young cockerels in with some older girls. Those girls teach them manners in a hurry.

I haven't done the spur thing yet either.... It freaks me out....I really need to do it... but would rather try it under the watchful eye of an experienced person.

Here is. Video of correct way to deal with spurs..it's kind of of scarey but everybody says it's correct method.it supposedly doesn't hurt them afterward And they go right back after the hens..some people use sugar some bloodstop powder.

Vickie, the old hen method works..Mrs softie has made a gentleman out of all of them..

That was the best one I have ever seen Lynn... Thank you... I probably would have pinched the spur too tight and ripped off that piece of meat if I had tried to do this without seeing this video first. Great Tool!

I had and have aggressive Buff cocks. And found their are very useful for breeding season. Some of the lines of Buffs in the USA have low vigor. IF need be keep the aggressive male apart from the hens and only let them together for a short breeding. I let a friend Russ Milkey bring over his hens and we watch my Black cock take care of them in a matter of 20 mins for 3 different hens. Use them while their young. After a couple of years these males tend to slow down in their drive.
