Yes, Suzie looks like a Sam.

My earliest roo crowed at 8 wks & began mating the hens less than month later! Surprisingly, he's the sweetest & our fav. I was worried he'd have high-T as an adult, but he stayed sweet. Usually mine begin to crow around 4.5 -6 months old & mate hens shortly after that. Some orps can really belt out a loud crow., Others have a more soothing lower pitched crow. (They get louder as they mature.) I put mine to bed in the garage at night, so the neighbors & I can sleep in. Most of their crowing happens in the 1st 5 min when I let them out for the day. During the day, they sometimes crow if something's going on out back, but otherwise, they're not too bad.

Orps are known to be gentle giants. They generally have good temperaments. I only had one that was unpredictable. In his case, he was the only male & developed a god-complex at around 8 months old. All my others simply knew the pecking order & never attempted to be dominant toward people & kids.

Pro: A roo will protect your hens with his life. He also manages the flock & helps settle squabbles between hens. Cons: He can sometimes over mate the hens which causes bare backs/ damaged feathers. Most tend to get better with age. Some roos can be loud. You don't need a roo for eggs & a happy flock, but you do need one if you want to get fertile eggs.

I also have a double barred chocolate cuckoo orp. God blessed him with beauty - but not much else. We named him "Brick." At first it was because he's "as dumb as a brick." Later we realized that he's kind of stocky & has a brick-like build. I really don't need a rooster, but because of his beauty, we're keeping this cockerel for now. Can't wait to see how he fills out as he matures. He just turned 5 months old. Yours will likely look like him, but hopefully have a little more intelligence. Thankfully, the other chickens here are intelligent, so Brick can simply follow their lead
wow!!! So beautiful!

These 2 little ones just went to their new home yesterday! I really loved how rich deep they were looking but decided I should share with others so they can enjoy my buffs as much as I do!
