My Bama Orps are about 5 or 6 wks old. I will get some pictures of them. Maybe we can compare. These are from yesterday. It is so muddy and wet out. I can't let them outside. Not good pictures, but here they are ...

They look like they are fixin to put a smack down on that RIR!

So, that is what mine will look like in 2 weeks - how cool. Looks like I might have an idea boy/girl fairly quickly. Yours' are lovely, did you hatch them or get chicks? It looks like you only got one splash.

Mine look to be almost the size and feathering of the ones in your second picture - upper left hand corner.

I sent the girls I had left from this hatch to Beth, but this one already had an obvious comb and wattles, so I assumed it was male. Beth would have killed me if I had sent her roosters

so I kept this one. Like wilds of pa says, I would think the comb and wattles would be bright red by now if it is male.

Thanks everyone!

That's the confusing part! They have small red wattles, but their combs are really tiny with no color at all.

The one I'm sure is a rooster has both red wattles (larger than the others) and his comb is red too. Then I have a blue and a splash with virtually no growth in comb and wattles are just barely starting to come in, so I'm sure they are pullets.

So I guess I just need to wait more. They are either fast developing pullets or slow developing cockerals.

Looks like Kathy you have too many and need to rehome a few of yours. I'll volunteer my house. lololol Nice chicks everyone. ROBBINPETER, nice pick up at the swap meet. Still just a guess, I think you got 2 girls. Keep taken pics. I have way too many lil ones. And have another 60 some to hatch within the next 2 days. Hope to get caught up by then.

I was just telling a friend of mine .... Well, I have over a hundred chicks growing out right now (not telling how many over a hundred!), and the ones I am most excited about seeing grow are these Bama Orps! Sorry, I have NO extras of these babies! I just can hardly wait to see them matured!

I have my Sportsman almost full, just a few empty spots, but almost all of those are sold in advance, or will be sold. No Orps in there, well except for my Lavenders that I am keeping. Incubating ...... is it a hobby or an addiction? I keep asking myself that.

I just have 8 Bamma chicks about 4 months old. Plus the two I got at the show., Their at one year ole. I have the Blue girl with my Black Feran and Doc is with all the black girls. Counting Doc, I have 6 cock birds that are Blue or Blacks. One is BUS. I am excited to just have Blues. It will be a year before I have the lacing in my Blues. Most of these will carry the gene but not show it. In a year I should be making some with the lacing and hopefully have the type. This year is all about making nice tails, which means hatching more then I like. But, in the beginning you have to do it. And I am just starting. I have around 85 young chicks or adults. About half are Orps. More to come. My first of near 50 to hatch popped out this morning. A little Red Speckled Sussex.

OH NO!!! First white orpington to hatch from Hinkjc is HUGE and has a comb???? Roo already or can it just be playing a joke on me. Picture is from when it's 5 minutes old!!!!

Not necessarily. My blue Orp was the largest to hatch (and the first to hatch) with the largest comb. I was sure it was a male. 7 weeks later and I'm positive it's a female!

I'm so happy it's a girl, as it's my only blue. (and I just LOVE blue chickens!)
