Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Quote:
They mostly come from this one bird.
But, since he makes some of my better quality Blacks and Blues I own, one Blue & one Black both won BV's at Connorsville APA Show, and the Blue had to beat another breeder's hen to do it. There is no more bashing on him now and he finally can be taken more seriously, at least in my eyes. A year ago here it was a different story. Since I do not sell ANY of his offspring and only breed him to make birds that I can compete with, it comes down to an APA judge's decision on how well he produces. And that is the way we all want the APA Poultry Shows to work. May the best bird win. Very few here are a big fan of my BUS. But, I am and that is all that matters. He is my big sweet baby boy!

I like how big his chest is! And he knows he's cool, doesn't he?
Besides, who cares what some people think. You're in it for you. Like I'm in it for me. I'm going to start showing this year. I have a black roo who is AMAZING. In fact, I'm gonna go take some more pics.

We have to be proud of our birds. Even if a judge doesn't like em.
BUS was weighed in last year around 11 months old and was right at 11 lbs. More importantly is what is in his genetics. The Buff Orp line he is half from, is from an Indiana Buff Orp breeder, who I consider the very best there is on the planet. I told him that, he corrected me and said it was a fellow Buff Orp breeder in Minnesota. But, being slightly biased, I beg to differ. This breeder is very modest, and is also an APA judge. I trust his word like it came strait from GOD himself. I am still very new to the hobby, but I like the results. You also must consider he sired offspring from another legendary Black Orp breeder's line, who she said to cull these 2 hens he produced from. So, he is getting the very bottom of the barrel in quality from my best Black Orp hens. This year I should give him an upgrade and see what he can do.

I can not help but post this pic again of the BUS's young Black cockerel who is about 8 month's old. You can also see the Blue Red pullet that is also from the BUS
You can see the same attitude from this Black cockerel that his daddy has.

My first Orp that I got so many years ago I can't even remember if it was before or after my kids were born. My sons are 28 and 23, so .. it was a while back anyway, was a buff. I loved the buffs and wouldn't have anything else for years. They are so dependable. Then my son wanted to show blues and I found a man showing blues here in Iowa, this had to be back in the early 90s. The trend then was to add some Jersey giant blood to them to make them bigger and I remember buying some that I had to work on a bit because I could still see the Jersey blood. I don't remember anyone ever doing that with the buffs, and I think they are better layers then any blue I have had probably due to that? who knows? Every breed has its history and every variety in those breeds has their micro history. I Think the Buff is a wonderful American bird ( yes I know they are English but they are truly a part of american farming history) I haven't owned one in years, but still get excited when I see one that didn't come from a hatchery. They will alway make me smile. I hope you have as much fun with yours as my family did with ours.

Ok so here is my favorite black. He's still growing out and has no ladies yet. he's in the bachelor pen. He's a late may hatch from last year so not quite a year old. He is NO 1 in this pen. And all the underlings know it!

He is more American than English, but there is some English in his lines.

This is MR 2 in that pen - Baize. He comes from Cynthia's blue boy, Suede. He's about the same age as #1

He is a MONSTER!

This is my split boy. He is in the pen with the split girls and my lav chachinger roo.
He was hatched end of July. I couldn't get him to stand straight! But, he's still growing and I'm very pleased with the angle of his tail and his overall condition. He's way better than some others I bought from hatching eggs. He is my home bred boy!

Lastly, here are some of the BBS babies growing out. I'm still smitten with the larger splash female. And it looks like I'll have a nice array of blues.

Oh and here are some nosy splits wanting to see what I was doing next door in the polish pen!
