Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

We are new to chickens and we have one little Orpington girl. This is my daughter's 1st chick and she is still trying to come up with a name (any ideas?). She is now 3 weeks old.

Aveca, they are all so beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing pics. I hope you have a great time at the show. We select for smaller combs on our orps due to issues with frost bite, while still staying within the standard. This does make them trickier to sex early, but worthwhile for us cold climate folks.

Cryrolfe, your buff baby is adorable! I am sure she will be a wonderful little lady. My buffs are so friendly, they quickly became my favorites here.

Thanks so much Jimmy! I'm thrilled to hear you love them. Our white orps are precious to us.

Jody, we are so glad that you did breed for the smaller comb..i think it makes them look so nice as adults. and frostbite is an issue up here..we were doing same thing until we lost the breeding rooster last year and got the new one above....Our australorp hens never have an issue and require only a little intervention in the winter, but this new rooster as you can see has a pretty good size comb and we had to keep him with his own heat lamp .

I have always wanted these birds and pinch myself that they are finnaly here..Pastor roland romig APA judge asked me what the origion of the birds, where you got them..he said he recognises them but cant place the breeder he knows who had some exactly like these, he judges all over US .. He rattled off a couple names but I said I really dont know where they got them..he named a couple of people, freinds of his he thought they came from.. He is judging the fair show this year..the faulkners will be bringing about 150 birds..they do really well down at the big PA farm show every year..If it works out, I will pay the faulkner kids to add one or 2 more to thier travel van.. right now they are just enjoying being babies, I handel them a little but they just need to run around and grow right now..we have had lot of problems with fox this year so cant let them out with the aussie hens, lost my best australorp pullet this spring so no more total free roaming until we get the orchard area all fenced .

Here are another couple pics, they are happy babys and sing the happy baby song at night when they go in the AFrame.

Hello all you Orpington lovers! I just found this thread and couldn't resist posting pics of my babies.

I am new to chickens this year and after doing much research I chose the Black Orpington chicken to raise due to their docileness and friendliness characteristics. And boy, had I known that chickens could be so sweet, I would have started keeping them years ago!!

My babies are so friendly and sweet, the come running to greet me, beg to get on my lap and peck at my feet for me to sit down with them. They follow me around like drooling puppies. And there is always a waiting line to get a good spot on the lap!

They just turned 12 weeks old today but these pics are of when they were about 10 1/2 to 11 weeks old.
