Hi BluBug, We're in Cairo Ga. down on the Floriday border 30 miles from Tallahassee. If you want you can checkout our website at buzzardairline.com You'll be at the other end of the state. Enjoy your 4th. Thanks from Bill

Sorry to join in during the middle of this chat but I have a Buff Orp question: I have about 14 BO chicks right now (about 6 weeks old) and they're looking fantastic (from HinkJC and Green Family Farm) however, 2 of the chicks have what looks to be a light brown 'dusting' on the very ends of their tail feathers and 1 has it on the tips of her wings.. since I want to keep a flock that is as close to standard as possible, should I sell these birds? Or is this something that will just molt out and not to worry about it? I wanted to take a picture of them this morning but completely forgot, and I'm headed to a swap on Saturday, so was hoping to get some input. They look very nice, just have these light brown marks (almost like a partridge mark) on those feathers. If had to be VERY picky, I'd say that some of the other birds have slightly better feathering/build.

Thanks!

Yes, the 2 that have these markings are both pullets.. but out of the 14 I do have I only have about 4 cockerels.. so I'd be ok selling them. The rest of the pullets look really nice. One of the cockerels I can already tell I don't want to keep, maybe I'll try to sell them as a trio.

OK thanks for the info on the 2 hens.. If you get chance can you post a pic or two of your growing chicks.. would love to see them..Yup sell your calls as a trio, at least they'd get to stay with each other for the most part..

Yup Jim that gene has its uses, however she should get some good Roo's in her buff grow outs and id think she really doesnt need to keep them, unless she wants the extra eggs for breakfast..IMO

Updated pic: very young lemon cuckoo Orpington cockerel
I'm really starting to like this boy..he looks very promising..if all holds out, winter breeding of this boy will commence, got some excellent hens awaiting him.

This is called "smutt". Dan Honour suggest we sue these to make a better colored male. has been lots of talk about this. You may get DQ at a show for it, but it is helpful in a breeding pen.

smutt, i like that.

is it called the same thing when you have a white feather in a black or blue orpington?
