I missed it Ray. Can you tell me what post on this thread said this was the worst example of an Orp? I thought you were talking about your Lemon Cuckoo. I don't think this is a bad Orp.

That is the United Orp webpage - I was asking about the black Orps on their page because both had very different shapes and different tails.
See, my problem is that the breeder I got my Orps from told me to keep the blue Orp w/ the tall, streamy, Australorp like tail. I liked the wide boy I first posted of my pictures. The above boys are mine and the last picture of the three cockerels are the three I was told were the worst examples of Orps I own.
In the end, I have a lead on English Orps and If I can get a nice black from the breeder, I will. I have no intentions of breeding BBS Orps, just black and lavs. But, I do like this blue and if he's of decent quality, maybe I can use him later on to improve on type. So, I basically needed to see what a nice, SOP Orp really looks like because I am totally getting mixed messages here.
Here is the boy I was going to/may still keep (one in front, standing sideways):
This is an old picture, while he still had his comb. He's the largest (widest) and fluffiest of my 5 boys. My Lavender isn't looking to bad, but his has a tail like an Australorp - as do 2 of my other Orp boys' tails. The other Orp has, as was told to me, a 'pinched' tail. I know there is more to an Orpington than a tail, but that is my main concern as it affects the overall type/shape of the bird.
HOLY #$$% That's the biggest rooster I've ever seen. He's AMAZING. And that's a GREAT photo of both roosters w/ the kids.
Do you know what the big guy weighs? I have a BO hen and she tips the scales at 5lbs. Which is small for a BO. But I'm amazed at how much bird she is when I pick her up.
Here is our project Gold Laced Orpington male.
Today we located and purchased two very nice Gold Laced Wyandotte hens....with SINGLE combs! A member of our church had them. He also ahd some Red Wattle Hogs. Guess you never know where to look. We will be offering a few eggs from these soon. Meanwhile, we will be hatching some for ourselves. Culling heavy for type and the yellow in the shanks/feet.

Note: He really looks good on type, but takes a poor photo.
