Warmbloods are just too dang big for me. I'm 5'7 my Arabs 15.1 thats perfect size for me. Well the filly is shorter, her dad was a small arab, but they handle weight quite well. I don't get to ride much with 3 munchkins running around. My son turns 3 in a few days so I can now lock him in the yard while I ride below in the arena, plus my kids get their lessons too. I used to cut trails, been in some hairy places, but that was my thing.... 8 hour+ rides..... thats well in the past. Don't think my tush could handle barley an hour now. They look like they were marble statues..they do have a beautiful face and eye.elegant neck..they require a lot of understanding and are a great riding partner when handled the right way..but Im a warmblood person..grew up with the warmblood breeders..still have one kicking around..thou hes getting old now..im 5/8 so a little overwhelming for the arabians, thou im fairly thin so they didnt mind totting me around ..we had more polish and egyptian imports that I could count, farazdac, senefro, bask sons, clarion call was an import..but that was a time right when they could no longer use them as a shelter so the sales plumeted..the arabian horse times used to be thick, hores were well promoted, now things are very different.. it was kind of a surreal world back then, water fountians greeted you as you pulled in the driveway in the middle of a saltflat desert..like an oasis. I thought this is both bizzar and beautiful,,I ued to get paid 80.00 per warmblood to bodyclip ..I did 3 a day..wound up doing arab horses too..doing the warmbloods was like bodyclipping a school buss some of them were massive..could zip through the arabians thou.
I dont think anyone today would pay that kind of money for a chicken..there isnt any reason to..i suppose the importing long journey on ship chance of the chicken dying on the journey was a consideration.. who really knows why that price....maybe someday we will find out the answer to that.
what did you mean kids got in chick got out?
That was not the first time rock blood was put into orps and other breeds also. With some of this new white blood coming in to the USA will be a great help to the white orps also. Just not a big gene pool.I would like to thank both Jim & Don for inviting us to their Orpington Clubs.
I do have concern about our Whites now since the leg color and beak color may not be what is expected. I was able to talk to a very nice lady who has Whites and is the United Orpington Club Secretary today. And asked her if there is a problem with my birds. She said for me to take some better pictures and get back with her. She also gave me the contact info for a Mr Bill Wahl here in in Indianapolis who is the man with Mr. Shaffer's White roo. She said he may help me in what I can do with my Whites.
I was able to talk to Mr Wahl. He invited us out to his farm and we brought our Whites. According to him, there is most likely White Rock in our birds. Which I and my daughter was not happy to hear. He says they most likely would not meet the APA judges standard and would get DQ's when shoiwn. Without saying my girl was heart broken to hear this. However, he did say we can still use this hen in breeding for Whites. He said taking a pure White rooster that he will give us later this fall would make pure White skinned birds. When I told my husband on the phone, he had gone up to see the Notree Dame football game, he was not upset and was actually looking forward to eating some of our hen's eggs. Until I told him we were going to get another rooster. That did not make his day. But, it did make my girl very happy. So, nothing has changed too much. Just going to get one more roo and I have yet to tell my hubby that Mr. Wahl will also get us a pair of White hens to use with our birds. We were only going to let Libby show these 2 Buffs anyway. And i guess we will see how the chicks come out from using Mr. Wahl's roo onto our White girl.
There never has been alot of white breeders out there, if you show them, it's a big job washing them. There is a few good breeders working on them now and will share some. I used to have white bantams, same deal.isnt it sad the whites fell into such disrepair..im told they are one of the top utility birds..good egg layers, excellent table birds..maybe somone being nice and promoting them instead of chasing people out of ever wanting to ever see one again might help..not that many people are that interested..the ones who are should have somone helping them..
That chick is on a growing misson, can you tell if it's a male or female?
