Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

My buff is really golden yellow does their color mellow as they age?
No, it will not change. If anything it will get lighter. Buff, that is an even shade ALL OVER, is a very hard to breed color. Is Buffy a hatchery bird, or a breeder bird? The breeder birds tend to be a more even color. You are shooting for an all over color, the shade of a gold watch, an 18 K one! She is cute though.

I had actually wondered if she may be a he!!! She/he is much jumpier than the other two, more willing to flex back at the big hens.
It's ok if beast is a boy, I needed a roo anyway

can't make more babies without a roo!!
Ill have to post some pictures of my other 7 babies (75% English) 2 of the splashes are much bigger and they already have fan tail feathers where the others don't...is that normal? Or is that the American part of them showing up?

My Eng O had the feather duster tails. 3 had me convinced, because of their early feathering, that they were girls. Even gave two of them girly names -Biscuit and Sweetie Pie.

Can't wait to see pics of the other ones. Beast would be a great name for a boy.

Hello. :D

I hatched a bunch of Buff Orps this past Spring. I am doing fantastic with them. I got a wonderful amount of pullets but only 3 males. I gave one to a friend months ago, lost one a month ago and now I only have one lone ranger left. I am quite bummed because I had planned on working with this breed so this might slow me down a bit. It could be that I am comparing him too much to the ladies who are huge a gorgeous but it seems like the males take much longer to fill out?

Chief (his name) is pretty hardy and good with the other birds. Right now I have a numbers problem and am housing several cockerels together (and they actually get along which is weird) so Chief hangs out with the rest of the soon to be freezer camp cockerels.

He is about 23 weeks old so pretty young. I have never watched a BO cockerel grow out so I am unsure if he looks about right or what. Can you tell me how he is looking so far? Should I scrap him and start looking for another roo soon? I am just so paranoid of something happening to my gorgeous Orps before I get to work with them. I am so enamored with these hens.

Thanks for your input!

One of my ladies. <3 She is only 33 weeks old right now.

ETA: I did not hatch them. I don't know why it came out that way. I bought a bunch of hatchlings is what I meant to say. :\

Your Orp K WILL fill out. He is quite nice for his age, and the girl is lovely. What line are they from? These big boys need time, and a lot of good food to grow up. What are you feeding? Try adding 1/4 cup a day of Calf Manna to his feed. It will make a huge difference, and worm him with Safeguard Liquid Goat Wormer. Dosage is 1 teaspoon in 1 gallon of water, made fresh daily for 3 days. Makes a huge difference.

Those roosters are so handsome!! What kind of camera are you using to shoot these photo's, the color is amazing!!

Alright, here are some pictures of the babies. Supposed to be 75% English Orpington. There are 7 of them; 2 Splash [that are massive in size and seem to be growing tail feathers of the American Orpington, 1 small black one, 2 small gray ones, and 1 small splash.

Can anyone explain why the 2 splashes are 3x the size of the others???

And...I think everyone is right about Beast. He's looking EXTRA red today in the face.

Sorry that the picture quality isn't the best, iphone camera isn't all they made it out to be! lol

This is BLACKIE

See how RED he is today!

Small splash! There's such a size difference between them!
