My feed store says they order exclusively through Ideal. I wasn't able to find the Blue Wyandottes on Ideal's list, but that's what they say. Otherwise I'm quite sure the rest originated at Ideal.

My results were mixed. I was sent 2 red leghorns, 2 buff chanteclers, 2 BR and a partridge chantecler pullet (chick) none were vaccinated as I am small flock. I gave away the 17 RIR packing peanuts to an organic free range farm in VT. One red leghorn died in transit, the other was stunted and died at about 10 weeks. I lost both buff chants at 8 and 10 weeks. (Now keep in mind I'm OCD with my chickens, temp, fresh feed and water and DLT with DE (food grade). I am not sure what killed my 2 chanties... the 2 leghorns, I'm guessing birth defect type issues. They seemed to be thriving then I wake up and their dead in the bottom of the coop. My one BR hen is a crossbeak but manageable with trimming needless to say I don't want to breed her and the other was stunted as well, but with hand fed vitamins daily for weeks she is now a friendly and productive layer (but still peeps like a chick... it's too cute!! I always know where cookie is by her voice). The partridge chantecler which I assume was the "bonus" is healthy and vigorous... I decided after crying (more like sobbing) and burying 4 of my pullets that I may not order from them again. However, that is not to say that others have not had good results and my experience may have been more or less a bad luck draw...

I ordered 25 chicks assorted rare breed (pullets) and 2 cream brabanter roos and 2 gold brabanter roos. I received an awesome assortment of chicks. The pullets included LaFleche, Gold Lakenvelder, Gold and Silver Campines, Silver Phoenix, Black Sumatras, BB Red Krakenkoppes, and Welsummers. Nice healthy chicks that grew well until 6 wks. old then started dropping like flies. Lost everything but 10 birds. I tried everything to save them. I called Ideal, not a big help said it was probably a virus from the local chicken farms. I'm not sure what happened. I had chicks vaccinated for Mericks disease at the hatchery. They were kept off the ground, warm, clean, well fed, and watered. I really like the variey from Ideal so am considering ordering again, but not positive yet. It broke my heart to lose my babies, plus they were out of warranty so no replacements. My birds that lived are beautiful and healthy. So, still not positive what happened. Hopefully, if I go this route this year everything will be better. Amy

I have had really happy results with Sandhill. I ordered the Autumn Specials, Standard chick, Bantam, Hatch special, and farmyard assortment with my friend. We recieved 150 chicks. All have been healthy and nice colored. Very Happy with them! They included a detailed list of all chicks sent plus call you on ship date so you can be waiting. We received Blue, Black, Buff laced Polish, Blue Jersey Giants, Fayomis, Blue Andulusians, Buttercups, Black, Red, Lt. Brown, and Mille Fleur Leghorns plus others. The bantams included cochins, wyandottes, and brahmas plus other unusual chicks. The other assortments included all rare colored guineas. I would recommend them to anyone wanting great chicks! Rememeber they only send straight run, but I did get about half and half roos to pullets. Amy

Buff orpingtons rock! THey are big and sweet and lay good eggs and are good mothers. The silkies arent the greatest of quality from Ideal but they are some of the sweetest birds alive. I have a bunch of silkies and even the roos are great pets. I have two silkies from Ideal and they are little luv bugs.
