Does molting (moulting? sp?) affect a hen's temperment?

My easter egger has been molting for about a month now, and doesn't want anything to do with me! before the molting started, she would let me pick her up and pet her.

What gives? Is their skin more sensitive? Is it a hormonal thing?

Yeah, I think it's hormonal. My BO hen is molting. She's always been very easy going, let you pick her up anywhere, anytime. Now she scoots away if you reach out.

They'll be sweet again. They're just moody, evil, anti-social little brats when molting.

Oh I am so-o glad to see those pictures! My brown hens moulted earlier than the others and you couldn't really tell except for all the feathers blowing about. Many of the others are moulting now and they look terrible. It's really reassuring to see other partially bald chickens! Thanks for the posts.

My GLW practising to be araucanas. Tail? I don't need no stinkin' tail!

This poor thing is actually looking better. She blew almost all of them and was a nekkid chicken for a bit. I wish I had gotten a picture of her at her worst.

CityGirl, I wish I had told my one-tailfeather girl your comment "Tail? I don't need no stinkin' tail!" She is still getting by on one feather and trying to look as dignified as she can....and failing.

There is a song in the play "Seussical" about a bird with her one feather tail.

GERTRUDE
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo doo...
There once was a girl bird named Gertrude McFuzz
And she had the smallest plain tail ever was.
One droopy-droop feather, that's all that she had
And oh! That one feather made Gertrude so sad

She curled it. She dyed it she gave it a puff
She decked it with flowers
But it wasn't enough.
For no matter what,
It just was what it was-
A tail that simply wasn't meant
To catch the eye of an elephant...
The one feather tail of Miss Gertrude McFuzz.

I've been singing it a lot lately.
