Post picture of your turkeys!

Can anyone tell me at what age turkeys start laying eggs? I have two girls that are about 5 months old. Do they need nesting boxes like the chickens?

I certain instances they lay the fall after they hatch. But most often it is the spring after. Usually about 9 months old.

I use doghouses for mine to lay in. They prefer the large igloo type but thise are expensive. The ones I kept in an old barn I laid a piece of plywood at an angle against the wall and they went under it to lay.

If they are not penned a hen will lay everywhere except where you want.

Thank you for the info. I have a couple of those dog houses that I leave around my yard for my chickens to use as cover in some of the bare spots. I do free range my girls but if they lay in the yard there are only a few places they would go if they need privacy to lay.

These are my 3 month old poults now.

could someone please tell me if my turkey is a male or female

I'm not an expert but she looks about like my girls. The males I raised when I was a kid had a wire like thing coming out of their chest.
Hopefully someone that knows a little more about them can help.
This is one of my girls.

Judy...how old is your turkey? Sort of looks like a hen, but would help to know how old it is.

And that "little wire thing" is a beard. Tom's have beards. However, occasionally, a hen can have a beard I happen to have a hen with a beard!

This is Annie....my bearded lady!
