Chickenzoo, the fourth picture down, there is a peacock with a short train, mostly black wings with white spots on them. What variety is that? I am asking because I have one that was sold to me as a Black Shoulder, but he has white on his wings like that. I believe mine also has some pied, a few white spots underneath and a white throat patch.

How old was he when he lost them? Mine is a 2008 hatch, and they still look the same as they did last summer. And instead of the rusty flight feathers, my guy has feathers that are kinda of tan with black on them (some feathers half black lengthwise). I'll have to get pics to post once it warms up, right now he has me baffled. I am happy to see pics of peacocks that are a year and a half that don't have much of a train (thank you ruth!). My guy doesn't have much of a train yet, and seeing some of the pics with nice trains on youngsters was making me paranoid! The only thing that I am pretty sure about with this guy is that he is a pea.

Blackshoulder take longer to fully color out. They are full color at 3 year this fall when he molts he should lose most of the white spots on his wings.

Frosty, don't worry about the tail appearance of 2 year old males. It varies very wildly, some males will have almost every feather ending with a semi or full eye but the tail is still short, to males that don't even have much color at all. However by 3rd season all will look the same, "fully tailed".
It also can be because of when the bird was hatched, boys hatched very early in the year tend to have more color and eyes than boys born later in the year. Still, that's just a general rule, two boys born on same day can have very different amount of coloring and tail development at two years.
