Maybe the chickens will be fine with you putting their feathers up in a little rubber band, lol. I wouldn't try it though. I'd be too worried that they'd eat it and choke.

Yes they probably would. And even if they didn't, they would get annoyed with it and eventually get it off.

That's very true. The only thing I can think of that might work and be temporary would be to slick their head fluff back with something like vegetable shortening. I'm really not sure how effective it would be, if at all, nor do I know if it would bother them, but I do know it would be safe for them to ingest if they did get any and it would be temporary. All you'd need to do is wash it off before a show with something like baby shampoo.
